Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) is a communication method that delivers radio-style instant voice calls through LTE, 5G or Wi-Fi. A user presses PTT, speaks and reaches an individual or an entire talk group.

How PoC works

The radio or smartphone connects to a PoC service platform through mobile data. The platform controls users, groups, permissions, voice traffic and often GPS positions. Communication range is therefore based on network access rather than direct radio range.

What is required?

  • A PoC radio, smartphone or dispatch console
  • A SIM card with mobile data or Wi-Fi access
  • A compatible PoC application or embedded client
  • An account on a service platform

Typical uses

PoC is used by transport and logistics companies, security services, construction teams, hotels, events, industry, municipal services and families who need immediate group communication.

Important: PoC performance depends on the mobile operator, roaming arrangements, server platform, device software and local network conditions.
